BRICS Parliamentary Forum

BRICS Parliamentary cooperation is an important element of BRICS. The 1st BRICS Parliamentary Forum was held during Russia’s Chairship on 8 June 2015 in Moscow. India hosted the BRICS Parliamentary Forum in October 2016 on the sidelines of the 135th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland.

India, during its Chairship in 2016, hosted the 1st BRICS Women Parliamentarians’ Forum in Jaipur during which the Parliamentarians adopted the ‘Jaipur Declaration’. The Declaration called for “commitment to intensify cooperation and strengthen Parliamentary strategic partnerships on all three dimensions of sustainable development, fostering gender equality and women empowerment”

During the 3rd BRICS Parliamentary Forum 2017 in St. Petersburg, Russia, parliamentarians of the BRICS countries expressed their willingness to increase cooperation amongst their countries’ legislatures.

At the 4th meeting of BRICS Parliamentary Forum 2018, hosted by South Africa on the sidelines of 139th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland, the legislators emphasized on the importance of BRICS parliamentary exchanges, including of Women Parliamentarians.

In 2019, the BRICS Parliamentary Forum was held in Belgrade, Serbia, on the margins of the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. It was held under the theme of ‘Role of Parliamentarians in promoting intra BRICS Health Cooperation’

Russia hosted the 5th BRICS Parliamentary Forum virtually in October 2020 under the theme of “BRICS partnership in the interest of global stability, general safety and innovative growth: Parliamentary dimension”.
